Toronto · YYZ1

Dlaczego Toronto?

YYZ1 is at 151 Front Street West, the address TorIX has always been at. We opened it in 2018 and we buy Bell here, which we avoid doing where we can — an incumbent is expensive and rarely the shortest way to anything. In Canada it is also the only dependable way to reach a Bell subscriber, and there are a great many of those.

Co obsługuje

340 Gbit/s and 24 peers into TorIX, which keeps Canadian traffic inside Canada instead of hairpinning through Chicago or New York. That is the practical difference between this site and putting a Canadian workload in Ashburn, alongside the jurisdiction.

Kompromis

Jurisdiction covers the disk, not the path. Anything leaving Canada for somewhere that is not Canada usually crosses a US border on the way, and no exchange in Toronto changes that.

Pytania

Pytania o hosting w Kanada

01Does a server in Toronto keep my data under Canadian law?
The disk sits in Canada, so Canadian law is what applies to it, and we respond only to orders valid in the jurisdiction the metal is in. What we will not do is give you a compliance attestation — whether Canadian residency satisfies your obligation is a question for your own counsel, not for a hosting company.
02Toronto or New York, given they are a short hop apart?
They are, and if the border is irrelevant to you New York has more of everything: 880 Gbit/s against 340, 47 peers against 24, two exchanges against one. Toronto exists for the case where the border is the whole point, and for Canadian eyeball traffic that should not leave the country to reach you.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
