1. 2014

   Four racks in Frankfurt, then Amsterdam

   Two engineers, a purchase order for eight Opteron hosts, and a decision not to ask customers for documents. The first instance was sold in November for €4 a month on a six-month term; Amsterdam followed six weeks later.

2. 2015

   Paris, London, New York

   The first year of real growth. AS204915 is assigned and we start peering at AMS-IX and LINX rather than buying transit for everything.

3. 2016

   Zurich, and a written policy

   The acceptable use policy is published in the form it still has today: two pages, plain language, no discretionary clauses. Riga and Bucharest open the same year.

4. 2017

   Profitable, and unfunded

   We turn down a term sheet. Singapore and Tokyo open, along with Warsaw and Chișinău, and the fleet passes five thousand instances.

5. 2018

   Everything moves to EPYC

   The Naples-generation refresh doubles per-socket density. Existing customers are moved to the new hardware at their old price, and renewal rates drop for the first time.

6. 2019

   Crypto becomes the only way to pay

   Card processing is retired after a fourth acquirer demands customer identity documents. Payments move entirely to crypto, and the last stored personal data is deleted.

7. 2020

   Seven sites in one year

   Demand from remote work and from people leaving the large clouds. Roubaix, Helsinki, Reykjavík, Seattle, Mexico City, Mumbai and Dubai all come online.

8. 2021

   The console is rewritten

   Version 3 of the control panel ships: one code path for the web console, the REST API and the Terraform provider. Response times drop by two thirds.

9. 2022

   Power crisis, prices held

   European electricity triples. We absorb it rather than repricing mid-term, take a loss for two quarters, and publish the numbers.

10. 2023

    Genoa, DDR5, Gen4 NVMe

    The current hardware standard lands. Single-thread throughput rises 38% against the previous generation and storage latency halves.

11. 2024

    Ten years, forty-two sites

    The anniversary is marked by cutting the twelve-month rate on every plan rather than by a press release.

12. 2025

    14 Tbit/s at the edge

    Scrubbing capacity is doubled after a 1.9 Tbit/s attack on a customer in Amsterdam is absorbed without a dropped packet on neighbouring instances.

13. 2026

    Console v4

    A full rebuild of the customer console, the fifteen-language site you are reading, and per-second resource graphs on every instance.
