Bucharest · OTP1

Dlaczego Bucharest?

OTP1 is in Pipera, north of the city among the office parks, and it has run since 2016. InterLAN, RONIX and RCS&RDS cover the Romanian networks between them, so domestic traffic never leaves the country to come back. Tor exit traffic is permitted in this room — the upstreams here will carry it, which is not something we can say everywhere.

Co obsługuje

InterLAN and RONIX reach Romanian and Moldovan networks directly, Arelion carries the westbound leg and Cogent fills in the rest. In practice this is the hall for the lower Danube and the Black Sea coast, and the natural primary for anyone keeping a standby instance in Chișinău.

Kompromis

In December 2024 construction severed both paths of a supposedly diverse fibre pair here and the site was dark for 2 h 51 min. Diversity is bought with a documented route now — but this is where we learned to.

Pytania

Pytania o hosting w Rumunia

01Is Bucharest a sensible place for a Tor exit or a high-complaint site?
Exits are permitted here, and Bucharest is the only exit-permitted site other than Amsterdam that sits inside the EU — which is why people who need EU law and an exit policy at the same time end up in this hall rather than in Reykjavík or Chișinău. The upstreams here will carry the traffic; at the other thirty-eight sites they will not, and we would rather say so than let a relay disappear in a month. Reports reach you with the evidence and 24 hours to answer. Outbound attacks and material involving minors are the exceptions, cut immediately and without appeal.
02Bucharest or Sofia for the Balkans?
Bucharest for anything north and east of the Danube: two exchanges, 300 Gbit/s and twenty-two peers, against Sofia's single exchange and 220 Gbit/s. Sofia for Greece, Serbia and Turkey, where Neterra's regional fibre is the shorter path. They are close enough to each other to run as a pair when the audience spans both.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
