Sofia · SOF1

Dlaczego Sofia?

SOF1 is in Mladost, out towards the ring road, and Neterra is the reason we are in Bulgaria at all — a carrier with its own regional fibre rather than a reseller of somebody else's. We opened in 2019. The people who choose Sofia over Bucharest usually have an audience south of the Danube and no reason to pay Vienna's latency to reach it.

Co obsługuje

BIX.BG covers Bulgarian networks and Neterra carries the legs into Serbia, North Macedonia, Greece and on toward Istanbul. Cogent handles everything west. For an audience in the southern Balkans that is a shorter path than Vienna, which is where the traffic otherwise goes; for Croatia or Slovenia it is not, and Vienna is the right answer.

Kompromis

220 Gbit/s, seventeen peers, one exchange, and no second Bulgarian hall behind it. Sofia covers the Balkans and stops there — for an audience spread across Europe the numbers on this page are the argument against it. The nearest room we could move you to is Bucharest.

Pytania

Pytania o hosting w Bułgaria

01Why Sofia rather than Istanbul for Turkish users?
Istanbul is the better choice if your users are Turkish — Turk Telekom and IST-IX are there and it sits inside the market. Sofia is the choice when you want Turkish reach from inside EU jurisdiction: Neterra's fibre runs that way, and Bulgarian law rather than Turkish law applies to the disk.
02Does cheap Bulgarian power make a Sofia server cheaper?
No. Every region costs the same, and choosing one is a latency decision rather than a budget one. What the power price buys is the margin that makes a 220 Gbit/s hall worth operating in a market this size at all — without it there would be no Bulgarian site to pick.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
