Amsterdam · AMS1

Perché Amsterdam?

AMS1 is in Science Park, on the campus in the east of the city where the Dutch academic network turned into AMS-IX. It came up six weeks after Frankfurt and at 1,280 Gbit/s it is the only room in the fleet within reach of Frankfurt's size. It has also taken more of our policy arguments than any other site, and the answers we settled on here tended to become the answers everywhere.

Cosa raggiunge

Fifty-eight sessions across AMS-IX, NL-ix and SpeedIX, which between them hold the Dutch and Belgian eyeball networks and a long tail of German and regional European ones. Nordic traffic is answered better from Stockholm or Helsinki than from here. NTT is on the transit list here and nowhere else in Europe for us, which is what makes the eastbound path toward Asia behave.

Il compromesso

The largest attack we have absorbed landed here — 1.9 Tbit/s in November 2025, six minutes long, forty seconds of degradation for the target and none for its neighbours. Amsterdam attracts that traffic. Plan for it.

Domande

Domande sull'hosting in Paesi Bassi

01Can I run a Tor exit node in Amsterdam?
Yes. Amsterdam is one of four sites where exits are permitted, alongside Reykjavík, Chișinău and Bucharest. We ask for the standard reduced exit policy and a working abuse contact on the relay. Elsewhere the answer is no, because those upstreams will not tolerate it and we would rather say so than let your server vanish.
02Do Dutch takedown complaints get my instance pulled?
Not on receipt. A complaint is forwarded to you with its evidence and you have 24 hours to answer. Active outbound attacks and material involving minors are cut immediately, everywhere, without that clock. What we will not do is suspend on an unverified report, and we do not hand over data without an order valid under Dutch law.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
