Düsseldorf · DUS2

Perché Düsseldorf?

DUS2 is on Hansaallee, north of the centre, inside the densest stretch of population in Germany. 640 Gbit/s across ECIX-DUS and a DE-CIX fabric of its own is more edge capacity than the room's profile suggests, and it is there because Ruhr traffic used to make the round trip to Frankfurt and back. Core-Backbone is the upstream that stopped it doing that.

Cosa raggiunge

Three milliseconds across North Rhine-Westphalia, with the Dutch border closer than Frankfurt is. ECIX-DUS and the local DE-CIX fabric carry the regional eyeball networks directly, and thirty-eight sessions is enough to cover Cologne, Essen, Dortmund and the Benelux edge without leaving the region.

Il compromesso

Three upstreams and thirty-eight peering sessions, against Frankfurt's five and sixty-four. For a German audience that gap is invisible. For a globally addressed, heavily peered workload it is not, and Frankfurt is a short hop south.

Domande

Domande sull'hosting in Germania

01Is Düsseldorf a genuine second failure domain from Frankfurt?
Different building, different metro, different power, a different upstream mix — Core-Backbone is here and not in Frankfurt — and its own exchange fabrics. What the two share is our backbone, AS204915 and the console, so a routing mistake of ours or a console outage would touch both. For everything below that layer they fail independently.
02Düsseldorf or Amsterdam for a Benelux audience?
Amsterdam, if the users are actually Dutch or Belgian — AMS-IX holds those networks and the site has three exchanges to Düsseldorf's two. Düsseldorf is the better answer when the audience is German with spill across the border, because you keep three-millisecond Rhine-Ruhr latency and still reach the Netherlands over a short path.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
