Miami · MIA1

Perché Miami?

MIA1 is space inside the NAP of the Americas, a downtown building that exists because Latin American and North American carriers needed a room to meet in. We took floor space in 2019. The reason to be here is subsea capacity rather than Florida households — FL-IX covers the local networks in a short session list, and everything else about the room points south.

Cosa raggiunge

460 Gbit/s and 28 peers, with FL-IX for the Florida networks. Where it earns its keep is Caribbean, Central American and northern South American traffic — the routes that would otherwise be dragged up to Ashburn and back down again.

Il compromesso

US jurisdiction, and a building in a hurricane corridor. It is also not a substitute for São Paulo: Brazilian users are still a subsea cable away, and a Brazilian audience will feel the difference between the two rooms without needing to measure it.

Domande

Domande sull'hosting in Stati Uniti

01Miami or São Paulo for Brazilian users?
São Paulo, without hesitation, if Brazil is the whole audience — GRU2 peers at IX.br São Paulo and the Brazilian networks are local to it. Miami is the right answer when Brazil is one market among several, alongside the Caribbean, Colombia and Mexico, and you want one box rather than three.
02What does being in the NAP of the Americas actually buy me?
Carrier density in one building. The Latin American operators keep equipment there, so reaching them is a cross-connect rather than a transit route through Ashburn. In practice that shows up as fewer hops and less jitter southbound; northbound, into the US, it is an ordinary well-connected site with 28 peers.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
