Seoul · ICN1

Perché Seoul?

ICN1 is in Gasan, the old industrial estate in the south-west that Korean hosting quietly moved into. It is the only site in the fleet where our exchange operator is also one of our upstreams: KINX sells us both the fabric and the transit, which keeps the peering conversation short. Opened in 2019. Buyers are game and streaming operators whose players are Korean.

Cosa raggiunge

Korean users, and not much else better than Tokyo does. KINX puts you directly onto the Korean content and hosting networks; the large access networks are reached over transit. Arelion carries everything international, including the hop back to Japan and the US west coast.

Il compromesso

KINX is both the fabric and one of only two upstreams here, which makes the supplier list unusually concentrated. A bad day at the exchange leaves Arelion carrying more than we would choose.

Domande

Domande sull'hosting in Corea del Sud

01Will a Seoul server actually give my players Korean ping?
Inside Korea, yes. Gasan is a metro hop from the Korean access networks and KINX is a cross-connect from the content and hosting side, so what your players see is mostly their own line. Outside Korea nothing changes — a Japanese or Taiwanese player still crosses the sea, and that is distance rather than routing. Buy the dedicated-core option for the game loop itself; volumetric filtering is already on, with no threshold.
02Do I need a Korean company or a local ID to order?
No. There is no company registration field, no resident registration number and no phone number in the order — the same three steps as every other site: email address, crypto payment, server. Korean services almost always ask for a domestic identity, which is why it is worth stating plainly: we hold nothing that could be checked against a Korean registry, because we never asked for it.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
