Osaka · OSA1

Perché Osaka?

OSA1 sits in Dojima, a few streets from where Japan ran the world's first futures exchange. We opened it in 2021 because Tokyo was carrying every Japanese workload we had, including the ones that existed to survive Tokyo. NTT and IIJ are here too, so a replica keeps the same upstreams and the same routing behaviour. Most people who buy Osaka are buying their second instance, not their first.

Cosa raggiunge

Kansai — Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe and Nara — over JPNAP Osaka, plus the same NTT and IIJ paths Tokyo uses. Korea is a few hundred kilometres closer from here than it is from Tokyo, which is a curiosity rather than a reason to buy the site.

Il compromesso

Two carriers and one exchange, against Tokyo's three and two. International routes into Kansai commonly transit Tokyo anyway, so what a second instance here buys you is a separate building, a separate grid and a separate fault line — it does not buy you a separate path off the islands.

Domande

Domande sull'hosting in Giappone

01Can my Tokyo server's backups live in Osaka?
Weekly backups keep four restore points inside the same country, so a Tokyo instance's copies stay in Japan. Daily keeps fourteen in a second country, which by design is not Japan. If you want a running replica in Osaka instead of restore points, deploy one and replicate over the public interface — the free private VLAN is within a region, not between two.
02Is the Osaka instance slower than the Tokyo one?
Not the machine — same Genoa hosts, same rate card. The network around it is smaller: 4 ms median inside the Kansai metro against Tokyo's 3, 220 Gbit/s of capacity against 540, sixteen peers against thirty-four. For a replica that spends most of its life idle, none of that is the constraint. For a primary serving all of Japan, Tokyo is still the one to buy.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
