Madrid · MAD2

Perché Madrid?

MAD2 is in Alcobendas, in the office belt north of the city where the Spanish halls have collected. We opened it in 2019, once DE-CIX had put a fabric next to ESPANIX and Madrid stopped being a one-exchange market. Two fabrics in one metro is what makes a Spanish instance worth having rather than serving Spain out of Paris, and Telefónica underneath them reaches the households neither exchange does.

Cosa raggiunge

Twenty-four sessions across ESPANIX and DE-CIX Madrid — between them the Spanish and Portuguese networks that matter. Three milliseconds across the Madrid metro, and Telefónica carries the westbound leg toward Mexico City, São Paulo and Santiago rather than handing it to a generic European transit path.

Il compromesso

In July 2026 a peer withdrew a prefix at ESPANIX and Iberian traffic fell back to transit: median round trip went from 3 ms to 19 ms for 48 minutes, with no packet loss. A backup session is pinned now.

Domande

Domande sull'hosting in Spagna

01Madrid or Miami for Latin American users?
Miami holds most of South America's subsea capacity, so for users actually in the region it wins — and São Paulo, Santiago and Mexico City are ours as well. Madrid is the right answer when one instance has to serve Spain and Latin America at once, and you would rather the Spanish half be fast.
02Madrid or Lisbon for Portuguese users?
Lisbon, if they are in Portugal — GigaPIX is where the Portuguese networks sit and the site is a millisecond behind Madrid in its own metro. Madrid is the better room on paper: two exchanges, twenty-four sessions, three upstreams against Lisbon's two. For Portuguese eyeballs the paper does not decide it.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
