São Paulo · GRU2

Perché São Paulo?

GRU2 is in Barueri, out on the western edge of Greater São Paulo where the corporate parks and the fibre both ended up, rather than in the centre. It has run since 2019. Three upstreams is more than we buy anywhere else in South America, and that is not generosity — Brazilian international capacity is thin enough that one carrier having a bad week is a visible event.

Cosa raggiunge

260 Gbit/s and 21 peers into IX.br São Paulo. That reaches the Brazilian eyeball networks directly, which nothing north of the equator does, and it makes this the obvious home for a Portuguese-language service or a game server with a Brazilian community.

Il compromesso

It is our only Brazilian site, so a second failure domain inside the country is not something we can sell you. The nearest sibling is Santiago, on the other side of the Andes, and Miami is further still.

Domande

Domande sull'hosting in Brasile

01Is one São Paulo site enough for all of Brazil?
For the south-east and the south, comfortably — Rio, Belo Horizonte and Curitiba are all close. The north-east is a different country in network terms: Fortaleza and Recife are where the cables land and they are a long way up the coast. Check the numbers before you assume.
02How far is Europe from São Paulo?
Far enough to matter. Traffic goes over the South Atlantic cables toward Lisbon and Madrid, and Madrid is the shortest European hop we have to Latin America. If a workload talks to Europe constantly and to Brazil occasionally, host it in Europe and accept the Brazilian latency instead.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
