Stockholm · STO1

Perché Stockholm?

STO1 is in Bromma, west of the centre, and has carried Nordic traffic since 2018. Thirty-one sessions on Netnod is more than Helsinki and Reykjavík have between them, which is the number that actually decides where a Nordic instance should sit. Telia and GlobalConnect cover the last mile the exchange does not, and there are 380 Gbit/s behind both.

Cosa raggiunge

Netnod reaches Swedish, Norwegian and Danish networks directly, and GlobalConnect covers the Nordic last mile that Telia does not. Baltic and northern German traffic crosses in a couple of hops. For users north of Hamburg, Netnod reach is what decides it.

Il compromesso

Nordic transit is priced well and Nordic fibre is long; those two facts do not cancel out. Anything with a southern or eastern European audience belongs in Frankfurt or Warsaw, because traffic that comes to Stockholm has to come all the way. 380 Gbit/s is a mid-sized hall and it is sized for people who live here.

Domande

Domande sull'hosting in Svezia

01Stockholm or Helsinki for Nordic users?
Stockholm, unless your users are Finnish. It has thirty-one peers to Helsinki's eighteen, a third more capacity and three carriers rather than two, so more of your traffic reaches Nordic eyeballs without touching transit. Helsinki is the better answer for Finland and Estonia specifically, and for anyone who cares about the heat-recovery loop.
02Does the Swedish climate actually change anything for my instance?
Indirectly. Free cooling for most of the year means the hall does not live on chiller headroom the way a Frankfurt summer does. In July 2022 outside air there reached 39.3 °C, one of three chillers derated, and we shed clock speed on 1,400 instances for three hours rather than shed load. That has never been a Stockholm problem.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
