Why London?
LON2 sits in the Docklands, on the Isle of Dogs, where British networks have terminated since the docks stopped being docks. It opened in 2015, the year AS204915 was assigned and we stopped buying transit for everything and started peering at LINX. Most people who choose it need a British address that geolocates like one, for a service that checks.
What it reaches
Two milliseconds inside the M25, on fifty-two sessions split between LINX LON1 and LONAP — in practice every consumer network in the United Kingdom. Arelion, Cogent, GTT and Lumen take what is not peered. Scotland and the south-west sit within a few milliseconds of that figure; Manchester exists for the north-west, not because London cannot reach it.
The trade-off
In November 2019 a fabric fault at LINX LON1 put intermittent loss on peered routes for an hour and a half. Traffic moved to transit within nine minutes. One exchange was never enough here; we have peered at LONAP since.

Questions about hosting in United Kingdom
01Will a London IP pass UK geolocation checks?
The address comes from our own London prefix, registered in GB, and extra addresses are assigned from the same block so a server does not drift country mid-term. What we cannot promise is any particular service accepting a data-centre address — banks and streaming platforms filter on hosting ranges, not on country, and that is their call.
02Should EU users still be served from London?
Usually not. London is the right room for British audiences and British addresses; for European eyeballs Amsterdam and Frankfurt both sit at 2 ms in their own metros and reach far more of the continent directly. Every site costs the same, so there is nothing to gain by serving Paris from the Docklands.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
