Roubaix · RBX4

Why Roubaix?

RBX4 is on Rue du Fontenoy in Roubaix, a former mill town on the Belgian border that became a data-centre town for the same reasons it once became a mill town: space, power, and nobody minding the noise. It has run since 2020. It is the French room for work that does not care about French eyeballs — build farms, mirrors, the second copy of something that lives in Paris.

What it reaches

LILLIX puts the Nord and the cross-border Belgian networks one hop away, and the France-IX Marseille fabric gives a southern exit that does not transit Paris. Four milliseconds locally, on two upstreams and 480 Gbit/s of edge capacity.

The trade-off

Twenty-six sessions on two upstreams is regional peering, not national: what PAR3 sees at France-IX Paris does not reach here. For French consumer traffic Paris is the stronger site, and it is a short hop south. Roubaix earns its place on build farms, mirrors and second copies, not on eyeball latency.

Questions

Questions about hosting in France

01Paris or Roubaix?
Paris if French users are the point: forty-four peering sessions against twenty-six, Orange transit, and a millisecond less in-metro. Roubaix if the workload is a build farm, a mirror, a backup target or a second French failure domain — same price, same hardware, and it does not share a building or a grid with PAR3.
02Why does Roubaix peer at France-IX Marseille rather than the Paris fabric?
Because the Paris fabric is already covered from PAR3, and a duplicate session would buy nothing. Marseille is where the Mediterranean and African capacity concentrates, so taking that fabric from Roubaix gives the site a southern exit of its own instead of making it dependent on the room we would be failing away from.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
