Singapore · SIN2

Why Singapore?

SIN2 is in Tai Seng, an industrial estate in the north-east rather than a finance tower downtown. It opened in 2017 with a single transit provider, because the second contract was still with lawyers, and went dark in its first month. Nothing in the fleet has been single-homed since — the shortest carrier list anywhere is two, and this site carries four, plus two exchanges. Most buyers serve Jakarta, Manila and Bangkok from it.

What it reaches

Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines, over SGIX and the Equinix fabric, with Singtel and PCCW covering the networks that do not peer. Arelion and NTT handle the long haul west to Mumbai and Dubai and east to Tokyo.

The trade-off

Being the obvious answer is the problem. Customers park Indian and Australian traffic behind Singapore because it is the name they recognise, when Mumbai and Sydney are closer to those users and cost exactly the same.

Questions

Questions about hosting in Singapore

01Is Singapore the right site for Indonesian and Vietnamese users?
Yes, and not only because it is close. Most Indonesian and Vietnamese networks already backhaul their international capacity to Singapore, so you are meeting them where they arrive rather than adding a leg. SGIX and the Equinix fabric cover the ones that peer; Singtel carries the rest.
02This site went dark in its first month. What changed?
Singapore now runs four carriers and two exchanges, and the rule that came out of that night is that no site is single-homed on one transit provider — the shortest carrier list in the fleet is two. The other change is disclosure: the leaf-switch replacement in hall B was announced eleven days in advance, and every incident since 2014, including the ones with no customer impact, is on the status page.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
