FR · The legal picture

Why host in France?

Two rooms, two reasons. Paris takes anything with a French-speaking audience in front of it — storefronts, media, game servers — because France-IX turns those flows around locally. Roubaix takes the back end: build agents, replicas, batch jobs, and the second copy of a Paris instance in a different metro under the same law.

The legal picture

France applies the GDPR through the Loi Informatique et Libertés, supervised by the CNIL. It is also one of the few member states that places a retention duty on hosting providers themselves rather than only on telecommunications operators: data allowing a content publisher to be identified, held for a defined period. We produce what we actually hold, which is the short list in the privacy policy. Manifestly unlawful material aside, removal is for a court.

Privacy notice

Questions specific to France

01France requires hosts to retain identification data. What does that mean for a no-KYC account?
It means we retain and can produce what we hold, and the whole of it is section 1 of the privacy policy: an email address, invoices carrying a name you typed yourself, instance configuration, 72 hours of NetFlow, support tickets, and an IP address and timestamp for each console login, kept 30 days. That last line is the closest thing to identification data anywhere in our systems. We have never collected identity documents, so there are none to retain. That is stated here rather than discovered on the day an order arrives.
02Paris or Roubaix?
Paris if users are watching the response time — France-IX and Orange on-net put it closest to French, Belgian and North African networks. Roubaix if the workload mostly talks to London and Frankfurt, or if you want a second French instance that does not share a building with the first. The price is the same either way.

Questions

Questions about hosting in France

01Do I really not have to verify my identity?
Correct. Ordering requires an email address and a payment, and that is the whole list. There is no document upload, no selfie, no phone verification, no address check and no card on file. We have never run identity verification and we do not plan to start — the cheapest way to protect customer documents is to never hold any.
02What do you actually store about me?
Your email address, your invoices, the configuration of your servers, and 72 hours of NetFlow-level connection metadata used only for abuse investigation. Nothing else. When you close the account, all of it is erased within 24 hours except invoices, which accounting law makes us keep for ten years — those hold an invoice name of your choosing and no verified identity.
03Why can I only buy six or twelve months at a time?
Because it is what makes the price possible. Monthly billing means churn, idle capacity kept warm for people who might come back, payment retries and support load. Selling in terms removes all of it, and lets us buy hardware against known demand rather than a forecast. The saving goes straight into the rate card — a twelve-month Base works out around 20% below the six-month rate, and both are below what monthly billing would cost us to offer.
04How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
05Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
06Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
