Why Tokyo?
TYO1 has been a floor in Otemachi since 2017. JPIX and JPNAP both have fabric in the neighbourhood and NTT and IIJ terminate on the same block, so peering here is a cross-connect rather than a metro circuit — which is the unglamorous reason the rent is worth paying. The people who ask for this room specifically are usually running an MT5 terminal beside a broker bridge.
What it reaches
Japanese access networks first: NTT and IIJ reach most of them without leaving the metro, and JPIX and JPNAP cover the rest. Outside Japan the work falls to Arelion — Korea to the west, and Los Angeles at the far end of one trans-Pacific hop.
The trade-off
Otemachi sits on the same seismic zone and the same grid as the rest of the Kantō plain. If one Japanese failure domain is not enough, Osaka exists for that reason and costs the same.

Questions
Questions about hosting in Japan
01Tokyo or Osaka for a Japanese audience?
Tokyo if your users are in Japan and you only want one instance: it carries more transit, more peers and both national exchanges. Osaka if you already run Tokyo and need the replica to fail independently, or if your audience is concentrated in Kansai. Plenty of customers run both and split DNS between them.
02My broker's bridge is in Tokyo. Does that mean a Tokyo VPS?
If the bridge terminates in Otemachi, yes — you are in the same district and the round trip is a metro one. Take dedicated cores rather than more of them; MT4 is single-threaded and what hurts is a missed tick, not a slow one. Windows Server images carry the licence.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
