Why Dallas?
DFW1 is in the Infomart on Stemmons Freeway, a building put up as a copy of London's Crystal Palace and now full of routers. It has run since 2018, and it is the room people pick when the budget is one American server rather than two. It is also where Mexican traffic lands when it does not land in Naucalpan.
What it reaches
520 Gbit/s and 32 peers over Equinix Dallas, covering Texas and the south-central networks directly. Cogent, Zayo and Lumen carry the long haul, and from the middle of the country both coasts and Mexico City are a short enough hop that no single market is badly served.
The trade-off
A compromise is still a compromise. If your users sit on one coast, the site on that coast wins on round trip, and the table above will tell you by how much before you spend anything.

01Is Dallas the right choice for one server covering the whole US?
Usually yes. Nothing in the country is far, both coasts are reachable and the capacity here — 520 Gbit/s, 32 peers — is comfortably ahead of what a mid-continent site needs. The exception is a workload whose users are concentrated in one metro. Then buy proximity, not the average.
02Dallas or Mexico City for Mexican users?
Mexico City since 2020, for anything user-facing in the Valley of Mexico or the centre and south of the country. Dallas remains the better answer for Monterrey and the northern border states, and it carries close to three times the capacity — 520 Gbit/s against 180 — if headroom matters more than the last few milliseconds.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
