Why Mexico City?
MEX1 is in Naucalpan, on the north-western edge of the metro rather than in the city proper. It opened in 2020 — Mexico was the last country in North America we had no site in. It took that long because Mexican transit is not cheap, and we would rather open late than open thin.
What it reaches
180 Gbit/s and 14 peers, with IXSY for the domestic networks. It covers the Valley of Mexico, Guadalajara and the centre of the country directly. Central America is a different matter — those networks mostly interconnect in Miami, where their cables land, so that is where their traffic goes whatever the map says about distance.
The trade-off
The smallest footprint in North America — 180 Gbit/s, 14 peers, one domestic exchange. If a workload needs headroom more than proximity, Dallas is one hop north with close to three times the capacity.

Questions about hosting in Mexico
01Does this site serve all of Mexico or just the capital?
The capital and the centre properly, through IXSY and the two carriers here. Monterrey and the northern border states are a different question — they are often as close to Dallas as to Naucalpan, and the latency table on the Dallas page is worth reading before you decide.
02Why is Mexico City smaller than the other North American sites?
Transit in Mexico costs more per gigabit than it does in Texas, and we buy capacity against orders we already hold rather than against a forecast. So the site opened thin in 2020 and grows as demand does. 180 Gbit/s and 14 peers is where it currently sits.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
