Why Seattle?
SEA1 is in the Westin Building on Sixth Avenue, and it has run since 2020. The carrier list is two names, Cogent and Zayo, which is short on purpose: the exchange sits in the same building and does enough of the reaching that a third transit contract would have bought very little. Most of our rooms are not shaped like that, and this one only is because of the address.
What it reaches
300 Gbit/s and 22 peers, much of that reach coming over SIX Seattle. Washington, Oregon and British Columbia are properly covered, and this is the shortest North American hop we have to Vancouver and to the northern trans-Pacific routes.
The trade-off
The smallest capacity and the longest metro round trip of our six US sites — 300 Gbit/s and 4 ms. East of the Rockies, Dallas or Ashburn beat it on every number on this page.

01Seattle or Los Angeles for Asian traffic?
Los Angeles for most of it. One Wilshire is where the trans-Pacific capacity terminates, and 640 Gbit/s and 36 peers give it far more room than Seattle's 300 and 22. Seattle wins for a different reason — users in the Pacific Northwest and western Canada, where nothing else we run comes close.
02What does a settlement-free exchange mean for my server?
SIX charges nothing to join, so local peering costs us a port and a cross-connect rather than a per-megabit fee. For you that shows up as 22 peers on a site with only two carriers listed: regional traffic goes direct, and Cogent and Zayo carry the rest.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
