Mumbai · BOM1

Why Mumbai?

BOM1 is in Andheri, inland from the landing stations, in the suburb where Mumbai's carrier floors ended up. It has run since 2020. Tata and Airtel are both here, and in a market this fragmented that decides more than the peer count does — Indian reach is bought from the incumbents rather than swapped at a fabric, and no amount of peering changes it.

What it reaches

Indian users on both incumbents, plus Extreme IX and NIXI for the domestic content networks. West, Dubai is the short hop; east, Singapore. Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai become domestic hops rather than a trip across the Bay of Bengal.

The trade-off

240 Gbit/s and eighteen peers, and no second Indian room behind it. If the instance has to survive a bad day in Andheri, the fallback is Singapore or Dubai, and both of those are an international hop for your users.

Questions

Questions about hosting in India

01Do I need an Indian company or a GST number to buy this?
No. There is no registration check, no GST field and no document upload anywhere in the order. You are quoted in euros and pay in crypto; the invoice carries whatever name you set in the console. India is outside the EU, so no VAT is added to it either.
02Singapore or Mumbai for Indian users?
Mumbai, if the users are in India. The crossing to Singapore and back is a real distance and no amount of peering removes it. Singapore wins only when the same instance also has to serve South-East Asia, or when you want the workload outside Indian jurisdiction. Both are the same price, so run both if the traffic justifies it.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
