Dubai · DXB1

Why Dubai?

DXB1 is in Al Quoz, the warehouse district between Sheikh Zayed Road and the sand, where Dubai puts things that need floor space. UAE-IX is a DE-CIX operation, so if you already run Frankfurt the route policy will look familiar. We opened in 2020. The typical buyer is serving the Gulf, Pakistan and East Africa from a single instance.

What it reaches

The Gulf states over Etisalat and UAE-IX first, then Pakistan, Iraq and the East African coast. Sparkle carries the Mediterranean leg towards Milan and Cogent takes the rest, which is why one instance here can cover three regions without any of them being an afterthought.

The trade-off

Domestic reach in the Emirates runs through Etisalat, so one relationship carries a lot of your last mile. If your traffic is mostly passing through rather than landing, Fujairah is on the cable station and skips the Dubai metro leg.

Questions

Questions about hosting in United Arab Emirates

01Dubai or Fujairah?
Dubai if your users are in the Emirates: it has the peering, the carriers and the exchange density. Fujairah if the traffic is mostly transiting between Asia and Europe — it sits on the landing station and drops the metro leg. Both are the same price, and they are far enough apart to be separate failure domains.
02Can I run a VPN endpoint in Dubai?
You can run one; we permit personal VPNs at every site. What we cannot tell you is how a given network inside the Emirates treats the connection at the other end — that is between you and your access provider. Tor exit nodes are not permitted in Dubai; relays and bridges are. The written policy names the four exit sites.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
