Why Istanbul?
IST1 is in Ümraniye, which is on the Anatolian side: the hall is physically in Asia, and anything heading west crosses the Bosphorus first. We opened it in 2019. Turk Telekom is the domestic path and Cogent the European one, an unusually blunt division of labour for a site with two carriers. It is bought to serve Turkish users without routing them through Sofia or Frankfurt.
What it reaches
Turkish users over Turk Telekom and IST-IX, plus Georgia and Azerbaijan to the east. Cogent handles the run west to Sofia, Bucharest and Milan, which is the path most European traffic into Turkey actually takes.
The trade-off
Turkey blocks content at the national level, and we answer orders that are valid where the server sits. If a workload might attract one, Sofia is a short hop west and inside the EU.

Questions
Questions about hosting in Türkiye
01The hall is on the Asian side. Does that cost European-side users anything?
Nothing you can measure. The strait is a few kilometres of fibre in conduit, so Kadıköy and Beşiktaş both sit inside the 4 ms metro median we publish for this site. The leg that does cost you is the westbound one out of the country, and that is Cogent's — a Balkans-distance problem rather than a Bosphorus one.
02Will an Istanbul server reach European users well too?
Reasonably. Cogent carries the westbound path and the Balkan sites are close, so European round trips are short by Middle Eastern standards. But if most of your traffic is European, put the instance in Europe and keep Istanbul for the Turkish half — both cost the same and you are not choosing between budgets.
03How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
04Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
05Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
06Which region should I pick?
The one closest to your users, not to you. Every location costs the same, so there is no reason to compromise. The locations page lists median round trip from residential probes in each metro, and there is a live latency test on every site page. If you are unsure, Frankfurt and Amsterdam reach the most people in the fewest milliseconds.
07Can I move an existing server to another country?
You can deploy a replacement in the new region and migrate, and support will run the transfer for you at no charge if you ask. What we cannot do is move an instance between regions in place — the disk stays where the metal is, and the IP address belongs to that region's prefix.
