A second Australian failure domain, on separate fibre from Sydney.
Melbourne · MEL1
MEL1 is in Port Melbourne, down by the bay among the freight sheds. It is the only site we opened in 2022, the year European power tripled and we ate the difference rather than repricing anyone mid-term — which is roughly why there was only one. Vocus is the primary here, not Telstra, and IX Australia VIC is a different fabric from the Sydney one.
What it reaches
Victoria, Tasmania and the South Australian corner, plus a straight run up to Sydney. Vocus and IX Australia VIC reach the local networks directly; Telstra transit covers the households the exchange does not.
The trade-off
Melbourne is the smaller half of the Australian pair at 140 Gbit/s, and the trans-Pacific cables land in Sydney. Overseas traffic usually crosses the continent before it reaches you — nothing is lost on the way, it simply arrives later, and for anything latency-sensitive from abroad Sydney is the room.
Fleet
NVMe KVM instances in Melbourne, from €1.90 a month on a twelve-month term. Email address only, crypto accepted, live in under a minute.
