Why host in Spain?

Madrid is the Spanish-language front end for most of the customers on it: commerce stacks, game servers for Iberian players, and origins whose audience is in Latin America but whose company would rather keep the disk inside the EU. ESPANIX and DE-CIX Madrid are the reason it wins over Lisbon for eyeball traffic.

The legal picture

The GDPR applies, implemented by the national data-protection act and supervised by the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos. Spain kept a twelve-month retention duty on electronic communications operators; how comfortably that sits with later European rulings is still argued over, and how far it reaches a hosting provider is unsettled in the same way it is in Warsaw. Spain also runs an administrative copyright commission that can direct material to be taken down, with a judge signing off where a provider is compelled to act. Anything else reaches us as a court order.

Questions specific to Spain

01Does a Spanish copyright complaint mean my instance disappears?
No. A complaint arrives at abuse and is forwarded to you with the material identified and a window to answer, the same as anywhere. Removal by us follows an order that is valid in Spain, which is where the disk sits. What ends an account without that process is the section-one conduct in the acceptable use policy, and copyright is not on that list.
02Madrid or São Paulo for a Latin American audience?
São Paulo if the users are Brazilian; IX.br is not something Madrid can compete with on latency. Madrid is the answer when the audience is spread across Spanish-speaking Latin America, when the company wants the instance inside the EU, or when a second copy in another jurisdiction is the point. Both cost the same.

Questions

Questions about hosting in Spain

01Do I really not have to verify my identity?
Correct. Ordering requires an email address and a payment, and that is the whole list. There is no document upload, no selfie, no phone verification, no address check and no card on file. We have never run identity verification and we do not plan to start — the cheapest way to protect customer documents is to never hold any.
02What do you actually store about me?
Your email address, your invoices, the configuration of your servers, and 72 hours of NetFlow-level connection metadata used only for abuse investigation. Nothing else. When you close the account, all of it is erased within 24 hours except invoices, which accounting law makes us keep for ten years — those hold an invoice name of your choosing and no verified identity.
03Why can I only buy six or twelve months at a time?
Because it is what makes the price possible. Monthly billing means churn, idle capacity kept warm for people who might come back, payment retries and support load. Selling in terms removes all of it, and lets us buy hardware against known demand rather than a forecast. The saving goes straight into the rate card — a twelve-month Base works out around 20% below the six-month rate, and both are below what monthly billing would cost us to offer.
04How many IP addresses do I get?
One dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6 with every plan. Up to eight extra IPv4 addresses can be added at €1.20 each per month, assigned from the region's own prefix so geolocation stays consistent. A routed /48 of IPv6 is €2 a month if you are running your own network behind us.
05Is DDoS protection included?
Yes, on every plan, with no separate charge and no traffic threshold. Volumetric attacks are absorbed by hardware scrubbers at the edge and mitigation engages in under four seconds. The advanced tier adds layer-7 scrubbing and rules you write yourself, which matters for game servers and public APIs but not for much else.
06Is port 25 open? Can I run a mail server?
Port 25 is closed by default on new instances and opened on request — send a ticket saying what you are sending and to roughly how many recipients. It usually takes under an hour. Custom reverse DNS on both v4 and v6 is self-service from the console, which is the part that actually determines whether your mail lands.
